Building a More Sustainable Food System
At U of T Food Services, we work with various industry partners to strengthen our sustainability practices, build culinary knowledge and expand plat-based dining options across campus. Through different workshops and specialized training, we continue to make progress towards a more sustainable campus food system and the University of Toronto’s long-term sustainability goals:
- The University of Toronto’s St. George campus will become climate positive by 2050
- 50% Reduction in Greenhouse Gas emissions by the end of 2027
Across campus, initiatives and partnerships in aid of this commitment include:
The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Staff Training/Certification:
- Participating in training workshops and certification initiatives that support responsible seafood sourcing and sustainable seafood practices.

Forward Food Culinary Workshops and Staff Training:
Expanding Plant-Based Offerings:
- As part of our Forward Food pledge to increase plant-based offerings by at least 20%, we have grown plant-based options from 40% to 61% across our menus.
